Harrison Provides Food Tips To Help Enjoy the Summer
- Food
Whilst the UK experiences warm weather many of us will be making the most of it and enjoying summer BBQs and picnics. With temperatures soaring it’s really important to remember that food can go off very quickly and that bacteria thrives in warm weather.
If you’re having a BBQ this week please remember that if you are using frozen meat you should allow enough time for it to fully defrost in the fridge and not at room temperature before cooking.
Food should be left in the fridge until it’s time to start cooking so that it stays chilled reducing the risk of bacteria growth. All salads, fruits and vegetables should be thoroughly washed prior to consumption and kept separate from raw meats in the fridge. Raw meat should be ideally stored in a sealed container or on the bottom shelf of the fridge.
If you’re taking cooked food on a picnic please remember to use ice packs to keep the food as cool as possible, ideally at 8oC or below and make sure that food is consumed within 4 hours.Once cooked, hot foods should be consumed straight away and food to be eaten cold should be stored at the correct temperature until required for eating. Make sure that cooked foods which you wish to eat later are fully cooled down before transporting them to the fridge but making sure that they are refrigerated within a maximum of 90 minutes of being cooked.Follow these simple rules to increase your enjoyment of the summer.
