Ealing chooses Harrison Catering to carry on healthy meals agenda
Monday 12 May 2008
Staff and pupils at Ealing primary and special schools are to continue receiving their healthy school dinners from Harrison Catering.
Ealing Council on behalf of The Ealing Schools Catering consortium (ESCC) has awarded Harrison Catering another five year contract to provide school meals.
Initially awarded the contract 5 years ago, Harrison have gained the trust and support of both pupils and parents to ensure that healthy meal choices are popular and will continue to work with the individual schools and the ESCC to ensure that this process continues.
Bill Graney, who manages the contract on behalf of Harrison says “We’ve been developing the school meal service in partnership with the ESCC since the very start of the contract, and have been able to introduce a significant improvement to the food served to the children. This new contract will allow us to continue to develop the meals further as well as continue the fantastic staff training initiatives already started.”
He added “Last year, Ealing Council and Harrison were able to declare a trading surplus by increasing meal uptake by an amazing 7%. As a result, hard working catering staff each received a windfall of just over £130 and we are currently on track for a repeat of this again in the autumn. This new contract also ensures that all staff will receive the Mayor’s London living wage providing appropriate remuneration for our dedicated catering teams.”
Special themed days and individual taster pots introduce children to new tastes and flavours, and dedicated school based menus are developed by listening carefully to school councils as well as gathering as much feedback as possible from staff and pupils.
David Shailes, School Services Manager for London Borough of Ealing continued “We believe that Harrison continue to be the best solution for our school meal service within the borough. We have developed a fantastic working relationship over the past few years and I’m sure that this will continue, much to the benefit of those using the service.”
