One pupil said "It was really delicious because it had rice and I really like rice, and I liked the noodles. I got on well with my chopsticks. I liked the Chinese music and the lanterns". Another said "I liked the chicken and rice, it was really, really nice, I liked the flavour. The ice cream and the biscuit was nice, I ate them with my chopsticks too".
Celebrating the Year of the Pig in Wandsworth
Staff and pupils at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Primary School in Wandsworth recently celebrated the Chinese Year of the Pig with a Chinese banquet fit for an Emperor.
The School, part of the 64 Group school contract run by Harrison Catering Services, requested the meal during a recent school council meeting and Harrison were only too happy to oblige.
The children were served Crispy Duck Pancakes followed by a choice of vegetable or Chicken Chow Mein and Egg Fried Rice all followed by an Exotic Fruit Salad and Ginger Biscuits. The response was extremely positive, with many children using chopsticks for a more authentic experience.
Harrison catering services have managed the school meals contract in Wandsworth for over 4 years and have recently developed a calendar of seasonal events to expose children to a range of taste experiences.
