Catering awards reveal best school dinners in Lambeth

Thursday 15 January 2009

Pupils from schools across Lambeth have been helping to decide which of their school cooks is top of the class.

And this year Judith Wase from Loughborough Primary School has been named the borough's best school cook. And on top of preparing meals at Loughborough School, Judith also provides meals for the Muslim faith Iqra School, which has no cooking facilities of its own.

Pupils from Loughborough School said "She talks to us about the food we eat and when special events happen, our cook always supplies us with something nice. She cooks very delicious stuff and she is always happy and smiles with us."

The award was handed out by the council and school catering firm, Harrison Catering Services Ltd, which also gave a team award to Streatham Wells Primary School.

Headteacher, Rosemary Newlove, said "Children are encouraged by all staff to try different dishes, lots of interaction with children by all staff to make lunchtime an enjoyable experience."

"The school council has regular meetings with the cook and all suggestions are listened to, discussed and acted on, if possible. Parents know that they are welcome to discuss menu options."

"Each of our children are treated as individuals, with care being taken to ensure that they choose carefully, with descriptions and ingredients talked about so they can make informed choices. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the team."
