Wandsworth Cook of the Year 2011
Friday 18 November 2011

We are delighted to announce that the winner of the 2011 Wandsworth Cook of the Year is Joann Klein from Brandlehow Primary School!
We caught up with Joann after a busy lunch service to find out how she had got to where she is today, and what she enjoys about working for Harrison Catering at Brandlehow Primary School:
"I was a Kitchen Assistant in my first job with Harrison. I was determined I was capable of more so I started putting in extra hours, coming in early to help with food prep, learn from the cook and show that I was keen to do more.
"I was so pleased to get my first cook's job and now I just love running the kitchen, working with my team to achieve really high standards. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing the children really enjoying the food we've cooked. The staff seem to enjoy it too!
"Last year we won Team of the Year so to win Cook of the Year this year is amazing! I think a lot of the credit should go to the other guys in my team as they work really hard to make it all possible."
Brandlehow Primary School head teacher Sara Grove was full of praise, especially considering her catering team wan 'Catering team of the year' last year!
"Jo Klein is the Cook of the Year! This is such a well deserved accolade, not just for Jo but for her entire team. A particular mention must also go to Jackie and Angela who support Jo in the kitchen, and to Carmelina at Brandlehow reception for her efficient coordination. Jo consistently produces lunches of the highest quality, encouraging children to try new tastes and adapting menus to suit any and every dietary requirement.
"She is ever welcoming to extra numbers for lunch even at short notice; a delegation from China, visitors from a Norwegian school and pupils, councillors and multi-faith dignitaries this term alone! A visit to the Brandlehow kitchen to meet the team is now an essential part of the weekly tour for new parents. Congratulations!"
We are delighted for Joann and her team.
