 Pizza at St Teresa's

Pupils at Gordon's and St Teresa's Schools, both in Surrey, have been enjoying making pizzas with their Harrison Chef managers.

At Gordon's School they marked the beginning of 'Food Awareness Week' with a pizza-making competition. This involved the school's 9 houses taking part in teams of three - they had to create their own pizza and topping combinations.

During the competition Gordon's Chef Manager Andrew Knight demonstrated his techniques, making several pizzas. A fun food quiz helped fill the time while the dough was proving! After the school's chefs had put the finished products through a careful judging process, the prize was awarded to the winning house - who will also have the lasting accolade of their winning pizza featuring on the menu! So well done to winners Sandringham House and all those who took part.

Pizza Making at St Teresa's

Meanwhile, at St Teresa's School Harrison have been helping to prepare school pupils for a healthy start at University and College with the launch of a new Student Survival cookery course. Students receive an introduction to basic skills and recipes during the classes, helping to give pupils a healthy kick start when leaving home for the first time.

Harrison Catering is a firm believer in giving responsibility and empowerment to their staff, and want pupils to also feel confident in their ability in the kitchen. The course aims to equip pupils with the skills to create a nutritious and balanced diet, so parents will be able to relax a bit more when sending their children off to college or university.

Tuesday evening saw the second session of the course, at which pupils made their own pizza dough and tomato passata sauce. The girls then put their creative skills to the test by making their own toppings, using a range of ingredients including pancetta, basil, olives, peppers, mushrooms and different cheeses. The 'all-chilli' recipe will certainly live long in the memory of this taster!

Geoffrey Harrison, MD of Harrison Catering, commented: "We think it's really important to teach students about healthy eating, particularly before they leave home after school. We want to give the pupils some easy and fun recipes, and build up their confidence in the kitchen. It's important that we invest in the schools and their pupils so they can use the necessary skills for a healthy and balanced diet wherever they are. It's also a prime example of how we work hand-in-hand with schools, providing them with a bespoke, added value service."
