Harrison hosts a fun-filled foodie festival
Wednesday 14 July 2010
Harrison Catering Services held a fabulous food-themed fun day at Kingswood School to celebrate their success in this year's Lambeth Pupil Recipe Competition.
Now in its third year, Harrison's competition, run in partnership with Lambeth, encourages pupils to cook up an exciting new lunch recipe for their school. Pupils are asked to create a tasty meal that is healthy and nutritiously balanced. Every year, the top three ideas feature as part of a ‘Winners Day Lunch' in every school across the borough. The tasty ideas that came to life this year included grilled salmon steak with stir fried red onions, leeks, tomatoes, broccoli and quinoa, lamb and carrot tagine with green beans and cous cous and delicious saag paneer with tropical fruit and vegetable salad and Ethiopian bread.
This year's winner, Isaiah from Kingswood Primary School, won a variety of amazing prizes, including a smoothie maker complete with a fresh fruit basket to make delicious and healthy smoothies. They also received a children's recipe book, a certificate of achievement and also won this fantastic fun food day for their entire school.
Kingswood's pupils enjoyed a tasty breakfast, a delicious outdoor lunchtime BBQ and scrumptious afternoon tea plus lots of exciting food workshops including making salads, fruit salads and exotic fruit smoothies to really hone their creative tasting skills.
Gareth Harrison, Director of Group Business, said: "Our pupil recipe competition is a fantastic way of encouraging young people to explore and cultivate their culinary skills. Each year we are amazed at their imaginative creations and we have thoroughly enjoyed creating a partnership with Lambeth schools. We are committed to providing quality, fresh food and passing this message on to younger generations."
