Harrison entertains Mayor's Office
Monday 28 June 2010

Chair of London Food, Rosie Boycott, and Strategic Project Manager, Claire Pritchard, visited three of Harrison's South London schools to enjoy a school lunch on Thursday 10th June 2010. On behalf of the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, they experienced the excellent lunch offering first hand from some of our hardest-working schools across Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth. The group visited busy lunch sessions at Corpus Christi RC Primary School in Brixton, St Anne's RC Primary School in Vauxhall and Ravenstone Primary School in Wandsworth - and enjoyed a fabulous lunch of vegetarian tagliatelle or fish curry at Ravenstone.
At Harrison we provide the catering for a number of single site schools and local authority primary school groups in London, as well as elsewhere in the UK. Since we first heard about it, we've been keen to show support for the Mayor's commitment to healthy eating, with particular concern for wiping out child obesity.
Gareth Harrison, Director of Group Business for Harrison Catering, commented: "One of the key beliefs and practices at Harrison is preparing school food from fresh ingredients on site every day, and tailoring menus to specific schools to create a bespoke offering which will appeal to children and encourage them to eat well. We are delighted to have had this opportunity to show the Mayor's Office the standard of food Harrison offers schools and we share the Mayor's commitment to healthy eating in schools."
Claire Pritchard, Strategic Project Manager, said: "Having been involved with school meals for over 20 years and now managing the Good Food for London programme, one of the London Food Board's priority projects, I have seen many challenging sites, visited and worked with many individual schools and caterers. Our visit with Harrison was inspiring and the food served in each of the three schools was exceptional. Uptake is considerably higher than the national average and the staff and children were obviously enjoying the experience."
