Hard work in Bexley schools paying off

Harrison goodie bags given to Bexley catering staff

Catering staff from schools across the London Borough of Bexley gathered at Eastcote School last month for the annual Harrison staff conference. The event was fabulously attended by the staff, representatives from Bexley Council and Harrison Catering’s Managing Director Geoffrey Harrison.

Harrison took over the Bexley schools catering contract three years ago when school meal uptake within the borough struggled at 17%. During the course of this year the number of school meals served per day in the 55 Bexley primary schools exceeded 5,000 for the first time, with an annual average of over 4,500 per day. This means the average lunch uptake in our Bexley primary schools contract is up to 27%, representing a 59% increase in uptake since the Harrison contract began.

The increased uptake of schools meals in Bexley is a testament to the work carried out by the catering staff. The general spirit and morale of the staff at the conference was high and was raised further with the announcement of Team of the Year and Cook of the Year: the winning Team was Oakwood School, and the Cook of the Year winner was Lisa Ireland (pictured with Geoffrey Harrison and Manager Client Services Debbie Glover) who cooks at Holy Trinity School – needless to say she was thrilled with the award. Following the awards a tasty dinner and drinks were enjoyed by all, with each member of staff leaving at the end of the evening with a Harrison goodie bag.

Well done to all our dedicated and conscientious Bexley staff for the hard work they continue to put in to achieve such great results.
